AMPE ADOPTED AS TRADITIONAL SPORTS AT 2023 AFRICAN GAMES

President of the women sports association of Ghana (WOSPAGA) Joyce Mahama, has discloced that Ampe has been adopted as a traditional sports for the 2023 Africa Games competition which will be held in Ghana. Ampe is one of the traditional sports played by Ghanaians mostly the females with Clapping, jumping and counting. It’s one of the Popular sports played in Ghana especially by females at a young age. According to Mr. Mahama WOSPAG A would soon be in Togo and other African countries to promote Ampe. Ampe is played in Benin also and it’s been referred to as Bountou. According to the President of WOSPAGA the Beninois have added few features to the game with its officials using flags as caution signals and point at winners. In an interview on Time Sports Mrs Mahama stated “In Benin , they marked the floor of the game colourfully with their national colours and sometimes sing their national anthem before playing the game.” Mr Mahama therefore called for collaboration among stakeholders of sports in Ghana and Africa to spread the Sport to other African countries.
